Alegria DLR proved from the get-go that Sofa Sound is anything BUT one of those cliquey new artist-ran labels. Big up for showcasing new talent, I'd never heard of Black Barrel before and this release proves I need to pay more attention to him from now on. Both tunes are FIRE EMOJI :D (and that cheeky sample of DLR's voice is hillarious) Favorite track: A - Still Fucking Warm.

Russian drum & bass producer Black Barrel has drawn from St. Petersburg’s dance music microcosm whilst still maintaining his individuality, which is obvious throughout his release forthcoming on newly created imprint Sofa Sound. After falling under DLR’s radar, who built the foundations for Sofa Sound in 2017, Black Barrel’s versatile sound design has caught the attention of many tastemakers throughout the genre’s underground market. And 2018 will see him capitalise on this surge of interest around his productions, having already geared up for a release on Ant TC1’s Dispatch Recordings.
Double sided single ‘Still Fucking Warm / Hyperion’ defines Black Barrel within his own standards, as well as signifies why he was picked up so quickly by many of the scene’s biggest players. Despite hailing from Russia, a country well known for pioneering the neurofunk world, Black Barrel has created his own identity which flares between every break. Expertly manufactured, both tracks highlight that despite maintaining the far reaching Russian benchmark for releases, he’s clearly created his own signature.
